The Home Help program is a Medicaid-funded service administered by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). It is designed to help seniors and individuals with disabilities live independently in their own homes rather than in a nursing facility.
To qualify for the Home Help Program through KRSNA Home Care, an individual must:
Be currently enrolled in Michigan Medicaid.
Require “hands-on” assistance with at least one Activity of Daily Living (ADL), such as bathing, dressing, or mobility.
Live in their own home or a private apartment (not in a nursing home or AFC).
“Yes. Michigan’s program is unique because it allows you to choose your own caregiver.
This can be an adult child, a relative, a friend, or a neighbor.”
Note: By law, a spouse or a parent of a minor child cannot be the paid caregiver under this specific state program.
If you are already eligible for Medicaid, the Home Help services are typically provided at no cost to you.
The state pays KRSNA Home Care directly for the hours authorized by your Adult Services Worker (ASW).
The process starts with an application (DHS-390) and a medical certification from your doctor (DHS-54A).
KRSNA Home Care specializes in this process—we can walk you through every form to ensure your application is submitted correctly the first time.
An MDHHS Adult Services Worker will conduct a “Time and Task” assessment in your home.
They will evaluate your physical needs and determine the specific number of hours per month that the state will authorize for your care.
